No fewer than six (6) people have sustained severe injuries after some armed robbers invaded Alaafia Estate in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital. The incident occurred between the late hours of Sunday and early hours of Monday. Our correspondent gathered that about twenty armed robbers stormed the estate around 11pm on Sunday night and operated till around 2pm on Monday morning. They dispossessed residents of valuables running into millions of naira. During the robbery operation, six residents of the area were wounded. DAILY POST gathered that the armed robbers had earlier robbed a Superintendent of Police and three flats a few days ago. Thirteen persons including a police officer have been killed after armed bandits attacked Beri town in Bobi district of Niger state. According to a statement released by the Niger State Emergency Management Agency, the attack left several people injured. The agency added that the bandits also attacked Unguwan Malam Bako in Kotonkoro district and abducted unconfirmed number of people. The state governor, Abubakar Bello, in a statement released on Sunday, May 30, described the state of insecurity as a “war situation.” “The situation has reached crisis level, in fact it’s a war situation that we have to confront without further delay” he said

Asistant Superintendent of Police, Tajudeen Adeleke, and an Inspector, Babatunde Olayiwola, have been injured during a clash between some cultists and men of the Ogun State Police Command. Four of the cultists, suspected to be notorious land grabbers, were arrested after unleashing violence on the people of Babaode-Onibuku community in the Ado-Odo-Ota Local Government Area of the state. INEC says it is resuming the continuous voter registration to enable those who have attained 18 years and those who did not register previously to do so. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) said it planned to create 2,673 registration centres and deploy 5,346 officials for the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) scheduled to resume June 28. INEC Chairman, Mahmood Yakubu, disclosed this at the commission’s emergency meeting with security agencies under the auspices of the Inter-agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES). The bill on the discontinuation of the National Youth Service Corps has reached the second reading in the House of Representatives. Sponsored by the lawmaker representing Andoni-Opobo/Nkoro Federal Constituency of Rivers State Awaji-Inombek Abiante, in the explanatory memorandum of the proposal, the bill listed various reasons why the NYSC should be scrapped. It said the NYSC has led to the “incessant killing of innocent corps members in some parts of the country due to banditry, religious extremism and ethnic violence; incessant kidnapping of innocent corps members across the country.”

A suicide bomber was on Tuesday blown to pieces when a suicide vest he was wearing exploded on his body. The incident happened in Afikpo town, Afikpo local government area of Ebonyi state. A source in the area said the incident happened around 12noon. “He made an attempt at entering Amaizu/ Amangballa Primary School but was turned back by the school security since he couldn’t justify his reason for visiting. He immediately started running inside a nearby bush before a big bang was heard,” the source said. The source also said residents scampered for safety when the bomb exploded but reconvened at the scene of the incident few minutes after only to discover the suspected suicide bomber laying dead in the pull of his own blood. The resident who noted that the incident happened close to the Eke Market Afikpo which is said to be the biggest market in the area hinted that there is tension and panic in the community.

A Police Station in Ile-Epo bus stop, Oke-Odo, on Lagos-Abeokuta expressway was on Monday, set ablaze while a yet-to-be-identified commercial motorcyclist has also died during a clash involving Policemen and commercial motorcycle operators popularly called ‘Okada riders’. The incident occurred at about 2pm. Details of the incident could not be ascertained at press time but it was learnt that the incident has caused panic in the area. Spokesperson Lagos State Police Command CSP Muyiwa Adejobi said he was yet to get the details of what transpired.

Some bandits have invaded the Ungwan Gaida community near Kurmin Kaso in the Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna, killing eight persons. THE Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, has accused his fellow governors of abandoning his administration in its face-off with the Nigeria Labour Congress. El-Rufai said this during a virtual meeting of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum on Wednesday. Also at the meeting, a committee set up by the NGF recommended a petrol price of between N408.5 per litre and N380 per litre. It called for immediate removal of fuel subsidy. Before the committee submitted its report, El-Rufai had berated the forum. He also accused an unnamed governor of providing mobilisation funds for the NLC to destabilise Kaduna State.
