GUNMEN: AT LEAST 200 STUDENT KIDNAPPED IN NIGER

At Least 200 Islamiyya Students Kidnapped In Niger channelstv.comMay 30, 2021 At least 200 students of an Islamiyya school located at Tegina in Rafi Local Government Area of Niger State have been abducted. One person was shot dead while another lays critically injured after gunmen carried out the kidnap operation at about 4:30pm on Sunday. A resident of the area Zayyad Mohammed confirmed the incident to Channels Television via telephone. According to him, the Salihu Tanko Islamiyya school where the incident took place, was built by a retired Immigration Officer. Details of the attack are still sketchy, but according to sources, the Islamiyya school is not the usual Sangaya boarding Islamic school, but a conventional one where parents send their children on a daily basis for the purpose of acquiring Islamic education. As at the time of filing this report, the police were yet to make any comments regarding the development.

At press time, the cause of the fire was yet to be determined which destroyed several items estimated to cost millions of naira. The spokesman of the state fire service, Amodu Shuabu, who confirmed the incident, said effort is also on to quell another fire that gutted a building at 36, Abeokuta Expressway, Cement, Dopemu, Lagos. Shuabu, however, appealed to residents to maintain peace as efforts are on to put out the raging inferno.

Yoruba nation agitators forcefully reopen Idiroko border

Pandemonium broke out on Saturday at Idiroko, Ipokia Local Government Area of Ogun State when some Yoruba nation agitators stormed the area and forcefully opened its land border. They were, however, swiftly repelled by operatives of the Nigeria Customs Service who were manning the border town between Nigeria and the Republic of Benin. The land border had been closed by the Federal Government since 2019 when it directed that all forms of importation be done through the seaports. A video circulated on social media showed a gun being snatched away from an Immigration officer. In the 19-minute-and-23 -second video clip, a man in a yellow T-shirt can be seen shooting the gun into the air to the admiration of others at the scene. Different voices are heard in the video calling on soldiers and other security agents to come out and shoot.
