LATEST: Bandit begin operation Hours After Buhari Charged The Military,

In the last 72 hours, the wind of insecurity in Kaduna State has been blowing with great force. In the early hours of Thursday and Friday, over forty persons were reportedly killed by bandits across the State while two other persons were said to be kidnapped according to the Internal Security Commissioner of the State, Samuel Aruwan. Consequently, President Muhammadu Buhari issued a statement through his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu to sympathize with both the people of Kaduna and Zamfara States over the loss of their loved ones after the unfortunate onslaughts. He also charged members of the Nigerian Military by re- echoing his controversial civil- war rhetorics saying that they should treat the bandits in the language they understand. The Sultan of Sokoto and President-General, Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, has announced that Sunday, July 11, will be the first day of Dhul-Hijja 1442AH. This was contained in a statement on Sunday signed by Prof. Sambo Junaidu, Chairman, Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs, Sultanate Council, Sokoto. “The Sultanate Council Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs in Conjunction with the National Moon Sighting Committee on Saturday received reports on the sighting of the crescent of Dhul-Hijja 1442AH. “The Sultan accepted the report and accordingly declared Sunday, July 11, as the first day of Dhul-Hijja 1442AH,” it read in part. Dhul-Hijja is the 12th month of the Islamic calendar, in which Muslims perform the Ḥajj (Holy Pilgrimage) as well as observe the Festival of Sacrifice. Nigerian Muslims will now observe the 2021 Eid-el-Kabir on Tuesday, July 20, which is equivalent to 10th of Dhul-Hijja 1442AH.

Governors in the South-West geopolitical zone have proposed conversion of the present six geopolitical zones into federating units, as part of the ongoing review of the 1999 Constitution by the National Assembly. The South West Governors’ Forum, in a document presented to members of the National Assembly from the geopolitical zone, also made other proposals to weaken central government, while allocating more powers to the federating units and states.
