Some youths in Igangan have resorted to ‘self-help’ by patrolling with guns and searching vehicles that enter the area following the killings of residents by suspected Fulani herdsmen Recall that suspected herdsmen attacked Igangan, Ibarapaland, Oyo state on Sunday, June 6th burning down a filling station, buildings including the Palace of the Asingangan(traditional ruler) and killing several people. The gunmen stormed the community with over 20 motorcycles, killing about 15 people in the attack. Governor Seyi Makinde has since reacted to the incident stating that security operatives are on ground to handle the problem. However, in viral pictures, the youths of the community have resorted to securing the area against another possible attack.

President Muhammadu Buhari, on Friday, passed the buck over the demands for restructuring, espousing of true federalism and devolution of powers to the National Assembly, pointing out that they were issues requiring constitutional amendment. The President spoke while hosting members of the Nigerian Inter-Religious Council (NIREC), led by Co-Chairmen, Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar and President of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), His Eminence, Rev. Dr. Samson Supo Ayokunle, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Reporters reported that they were a robbery incident of a bullion van in Bolorunduro, East Local Government of Ondo State. It was reported that the robbers were with two cars which one of the cars were specified to be Lexus adding that the robbery was carried out by eight persons. This incident happened around 5: 30pm at Elemoso village along Akure/Ondo expressway. It was reported that the bullion van was attacked after it left Ondo town to Akure. Reporters added that the police men who were escorting the bullion van ran after the robbers surfaced, leaving their escort van which the robbers damaged after several attempt on the bullion van. All the villagers in the venue where the incident happened ran to the neighboring village, while car owners left their cars to run for their lives’. According to reporters the villagers reported to the Amotekun operatives in Bolorunduro about the robbery, after which they went to the place the incident happened but the robbers had gone.

President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed Mr. Balarabe Shehu Ilelah, as the Director-General of the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC). Mr. Ilelah is a veteran broadcaster. The National Association of Nigerian Students has suspended its planned June 12 nationwide protest, The PUNCHhas learnt. NANS President, Sunday Asefon, made this known in a statement on Friday morning. It was titled, ‘NANS Suspends June 12 Protest Over Concerns About Safety Of Protesters And Fear Of Possible Hijack By Politicians – Comrade Sunday Asefon’. According to the NANS president, the planned protest was aimed at decrying the insecurity in the country, especially the serial abductions of students. However, Asefon said some politicians with “different agenda” have perfected plans to hijack the protest to “ventilate their political opinions and sentiments”. He also said the students’ body was not associated with the secessionist campaign or the ‘Buhari-must-go’ campaign slated to hold on Saturday by some politicians and activists. Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, paid a visit to the massacre site three days after roughly fifteen citizens of Igangan, Ibarapa North Local Government Area, were massacred. Makinde, who bemoaned the level of devastation in the community, urged the Federal Government to allow governors in the South- West to arm the Amotekun Corps with sophisticated weapons such as the AK- 47 to combat rising insecurity in the geopolitical zone, especially banditry and kidnapping.
