What began as a rumour or idle talk – whispers of a putsch – yesterday gathered a life of its own as state actors kept giving life to the notion, which is turning and turning in the widening gyre. An Islamic cleric, Sheik Ahmad Gumi, on Tuesday advised the Federal Government to pay the N100m ransom being demanded by the kidnappers of students of Greenfield University, Kaduna, through the Central Bank of Nigeria. EyewitnessMedia gathered that Gumi gave the advice during a telephone interview, lamenting that his efforts, which had been yielding fruits, were not being appreciated by the government.
